Bishop

Keeper of Lives

Between the final blow and the silence, you.

Strengthen your healing, consecrate a refuge on the battlefield and recognize danger before it becomes a loss. In Knell the Bishop is one of three classes that can contest death’s claim on a soul.

The rescue has an owner.

The Interlude heals remain. What comes in is weight: only the Bishop and the Elders bring someone back from the Threshold, and each of his new tools is a decision with a long cooldown.

  1. Only three classes rescue

Bishop, Elven Elder and Shillien Elder, from level 40. The ritual costs a Tear of Einhasad, six seconds no haste can shorten and twelve hours of cooldown. Those the Bishop rescues return with full MP and CP.

  2. Divine Intervention

For sixty seconds, the next fatal blow leaves the ally at 1 HP and untouchable for three seconds. A blow beyond 60% of their maximum HP is beyond Einhasad’s mercy. A thirty-minute cooldown.

  3. Sacred Light and Sanctuary

Prayer becomes an aura of healing received and regeneration, paid in MP per second. Sanctuary consecrates the ground around the Bishop for ten seconds: 30% less damage for the allies inside.

  4. Merciful Hands

Direct heals become 30% stronger on anyone below 30% HP. The Bishop heals more exactly when it matters most.

  5. Judgment

The Bishop’s own strike: holy damage, doubled against the undead, and half of it returns as healing. A cautious hunt, but her own.

Four decisions per fight.

Divine Intervention

Reactive · 60 s · 30 min cooldown · Level 44

The next fatal blow leaves the ally at 1 HP and untouchable for three seconds. It does not hold blows beyond 60% of maximum HP; a ten-minute lock per target.

Sanctuary

Active · 10 s · 3 min cooldown · Level 52

Consecrates the ground within 300 around the Bishop. For ten seconds, the allies inside take 30% less damage from any source.

Sacred Light

Aura · MP per second · Level 40

Increases the healing the party receives and its HP regeneration, while the aura is lit.

Judgment

Attack · 6 s cooldown · Level 40

Holy damage to any target, doubled against the undead. Half of the damage returns to the Bishop as healing.

When the bell has not tolled yet.

The bell has not tolled yet. Somewhere in the dark a party is counting down from sixty. The Bishop reaches the body with forty seconds left; the Tear is already in her hand. Six seconds. No haste shortens them, no potion. The tank she came for lies still while she speaks. He opens his eyes scarred. Nobody calls her a buffer again.

An example vignette. The rescue cast is fixed at six seconds and can be interrupted; whoever rescues has to survive the ritual.

What she covers. What she does not.

Covers

  • Sustain: the usual heals, 30% stronger on whoever is close to the end
  • A ward against the killing blow and consecrated ground
  • The rescue itself: the Tear, the ritual, the soul back
  • Alone: possible, slowly, with Judgment and Sacred Light

Does not cover

  • Attack buffs and burst: a Prophet, a Warcryer or a Dancer make you win
  • Unlimited rescues: twelve hours of cooldown and a scar per return
  • Real damage: Judgment sustains, it does not kill fast

Walks well with

  • A tank who holds the line while she casts
  • A Prophet or an Elder, to buy time with Stabilize and Aegis
  • DDs who know when to stop
